We cycled around the Ypres salient in July 2018 and passed by the location where 90th Brigade had advanced on 31st July 1917 – as the opening of the 3rd Battle for Ypres, or Passchendaele.
17th Battalion was in support of 16th & 18th Battalions. They advaced from positions behind Sanctuary Wood, through Sterling Castle and over the Menin Road near Clapham Junction. They were then held up north of the Menin Road in a line in front of Glencourse Wood.
