He laid where he fell for 40 hours before being picked up. Cherisy 23/04/1917.  Evacuated home and initially treated at Clacton Hosp. Died of septic poisoning from wounds at Queen Mary Mil Hosp, Whalley, Lancs. Received military funeral. Grave

Employed as a land agent when the First World War broke out, Morgan, aged 18, (claimed 19y 7m) enlisted as a trooper 3523  in the 1st Life Guards on 11/11/1914. Commissioned into the Manchester Regiment on 5th October 1915. That same year he took the opportunity of a period of leave to marry. T/Lt 1/9/1916.  Joined Bttn 7/6/1917.Morgan served throughout the war in a variety of roles, including acting Adjt at then end of Aug 1917 and instructor at the 5th Musketry School in France. In spring 1918 he was ordered to the front to help repel the German offensive. He was killed by a German shell near Hamel on the morning of 30 March.
