Arthur Bell and the 17th Manchesters approached Frise during a patrol in the Spring of 1916. The village had been taken by the Germans from the French army on 28th January – the Kaiser’s Birthday. On this day, a number of the Battalion’s men were killed or wounded, including the wounding of the OC of Arthur’s A Company, Captain Edward Lloyd. Photo needed of Frise Church today…
