Grandad’s Platoon at Heaton Park

III Pln with 2LT R F Mansergh

2nd Lieut R F Mansergh supervising III Platoon (including Pte A A Bell) in early rifle training at Heaton Park in late 1914. Robert Mansergh was an 18 years old former pupil of Merchiston Castle School. He received his commission on 21 December 1914. The men are still wearing Tram Guards uniforms, which dates the photo as before February 1915.

Sue Nelson provided this image almost two years ago.  I focussed my research on Sue’s relative, Captain Robert Forbes Mansergh .

I then forgot this wonderful image.  Passing through previous work, I’ve now picked up the photo and placed it in the Heaton Park page.

Try as I might, I can’t see my Grandfather in the image, even though I know this is III Platoon, with whom he served.  He may have been in a different section.
